Saw your response to Ron P's inquiry about the GL of Eastern Michigan Pickwick Daycoach. Very informative. Before my time, but bus industry history is quite interesting to me. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Thank you for all the details and history relating to intercity coaches. I've been a bus enthusiasts since a young child in the 60s. Reading the stories behind the concept, design, construction, operation, and problems is interesting and fun to me. Thank you for all the research and hard work to compile all this information. Best wishes, Ron.

Hello, shipmate. So glad some of the stories conveyed to me long ago are now held in a more secure space. After reading some of Doc's experiences you can close your eyes and imagine that you had lived them yourself. It is not just the exceptional technical (and therefore historical) content, it is the reality of experience that shines through. Keep it going! Glad to discover this site ....

Lots of great well researched information. Really great! I am curious if you know more about how many ACF-Brills were delivered to Boston and Maine Transportation. The GM production lists are so easy to find but haven't found the ACF version yet. Think they got both before and after the war.

Keith: Thanks much for your kind words. Fortunately, I have a delivery list for the IC-41 in the US. However, it's now packed away -- ready for a move from Indiana back to Florida. After I unpack, I'll search for an answer to your question. Thanks again. Doc. More to Keith: This afternoon, while unpacking several boxes at my next home (in Orange City, Florida), I found my build list for the ACF-Brill IC-41. According to that list, B&M received 10 of them -- serials 543-552, with fleet numbers 710-719, all delivered in December 1946. Cheers! Doc.

Wonderful historical digest of Greyhound history. I have been in the business since 1968, having worked for Greyhound, Trailways, and other carriers for much of that time. It was great, but sad, to reflect on the rise and subsequent fall of what was a great entity. Thanks for providing this read.

I am a Greyhound geek and your information is absolutely stunning. The detail is awesome. I rode buses as a kid in the 60s up until the 80s when Greyhound was a top tier class act. It's sad to see its diminution. But the fond memories will last forever. I have loads of ephemera. Keep up the excellent job. You are a gem.

I must commend you on such an educational and historical website. From the stories that I had read, so far, especially the history on the Scenicruiser buses, it brought back such memories to me as I watched these beautiful machines prowling up and down the streets and highways. Keep the great work up and much success. Ed Crew.

Hello! Just discovered your web page. As a former driver and union officer (ATU). Of great interest in your articles. I walked away, disgusted, in 87 when it sold to Currey's group. I had tried to spark interest in an ESOP, but to no avail. Kowing the financials, 350 mil purchase, its failure was inevitable, but didn't expect the Dial Group's rapid decline -- am currently researching it. You have no recent posts - are you still active? Must ask as we are of the same age.

David: Thanks much for your note. It's interesting to know about your background. Yes, I'm still active but in low speed. Last year I barely survived a nasty combination of health problems. Now (at age 83) I'm about to finish my article about the Overland GL. Next I'll do the Pickwick-Greyhound Lines (with a hyphen). That will leave the Southwestern GL, Pacific GL, and Northwest GL. Then, if I live long enough, I'll move on to the Trailways companies. Thanks again. Doc.

Hi Doc -- you may recall that we’ve been long time friends on Facebook and co-members of numerous bus and transportation Groups. I was delighted to find this your website, keep up the good work! You know of course that GH Canada shut down a few years back. Maybe you are aware that I discovered a 1938 ex-Greyhound Central Canada Lines White Bender bus in a farmer’s field near Marshall SK -- if you haven’t seen those photos I will send them to you! My contact is ralphwatzke@gmail.com

Just discovered your website by accident. A nice and interesting topic to pursue. One question comes to mind .... Who/what was the Flxible Company, and why did they spell flexible without the first E? I recall from childhood that some of the Flxible bus models had no rear window. As a high-school-band kid (many years ago), I rode lots of miles in a Redhound (Trailways) bus. Our school usually chartered with Trailways for our out of town trips.

Bob: Thanks for your kind words. In 1913 Hugo Young, previously a Harley-Davidson dealer, founded the Flexible (with two Es) Sidecar Company -- to build sidecars mounted to motorcycles by pantograph connections -- so that a motorcycle and its sidecar could lean into curves in either direction in such a way that the cycle and the car would remain parallel to each other. By 1919, however, the market for sidecars and motorcycles had begun to shrink -- because of the increasing numbers of Model Ts and other four-wheel automobiles. Young began to seek other opportunities with self-propelled vehicles, and he changed the name of his company to The Flxible Company. During that process he and his lawyer learned that he could not register a trademark using the word "flexible" (with two Es), but he could register one using the word "Flxible" (with one E) -- because the federal law did not allow the registration of a common word as a trademark. No Flxible Clipper had a rear window -- because of the rounded tail. However, the Flxible VistaLiner, introduced in 1955, in an attempt to compete against the Greyhound Scenicruiser, did have a rear window, as did following models. Thanks for asking.

Very enjoyable history of what was for me some dreaded long-distance trips by bus while in college. BTW, regarding your also entertaining discussion on editing pop car ... "Two years his junior" would have been an atrocious change. I would have scratched my head on reading that, and been so puzzled I might have stopped reading.
